What Does Sequestration Cost?
The average cost of carbon sequestration within
the project is currently estimated at around $13 US per tonne of
carbon ($3.55 /tCO2) and Voluntary Emission Reductions are currently
available from the project at this price.
The cost of VERs from Scolel Té includes
the cost of providing technical support to farmers and carrying
out internal monitoring as well as providing financial support to
farmers to cover the cost of planting trees.
Purchasers
Purchases of VERs from the project to date have been made by the
Ferderaton Internationale
de l'Automobile (FIA) in order to offset carbon dioxide emissions
from the Formula 1 and World Rally championships and by Future
Forests on behalf of a number of companies including the World
Economic Forum, D'Ieteren-Audi and Pink Floyd.
