Hybrid cars
Hybrid cars combine electric motors with internal combustion engines to provide greater fuel efficiency. Honda and Toyota are producing hybrid cars with figures of around 80 gCO2/km for tailpipe emissions (Colt Services, 2000), which is less than half that for an average car in the UK. (Colt Services, 2000)

Other hybrid cars combine electric motors with hydrogen fuel cells, as with the Peugeot Fuel Cell Car which they intend to gradually introduce into production by 2010.

General Motors is currently producing hybrid fuel cell buses.
