The tables below show a comparison between the carbon emissions from different fuels while driving and between the whole of life (or well-to-wheels) carbon intensity.

Some new technologies can produce vehicles with zero emissions at the tailpipe. However, unless the energy used to produce the fuels is generated by renewable energy sources, such as wind or wave power, there are "embodied" emissions in the fuel used to power vehicles.
